I’ve always wanted to learn how to improve my limited painting skills. So, why not do just that? What’s holding me back? Fear of failure? Perhaps. Probably. Okay, yes!

As 2020 dawned, I realized there was no reason to wait any longer or let that fear get the best of me. So, after a bit of thinking, praying, and studio reorganizing, I am on a quest to learn how to “paint dry” with pastel pencils. I am immersing myself in tutorials, practice pieces, books, and anything else that will teach me what I long to learn.

For almost a year now, my sketchpad has been the landing spot for animal illustrations. Two of those drawings will soon make their way onto the walls of the Artists for Animals exhibit, Dec. 6, 2019 – January 17, 2020, at the West Valley Arts Council in Surprise, AZ.

Although it was a poorly-worded sentence, I recently told my husband, “I can’t not make art.”

It’s true. Every waking moment I feel those creative urges beckoning to be birthed. There is no other option, nor would I want one.
